About The Artist

Dafeney Josue, a self-taught Haitian American artist, didn’t set out to be an artist; art found her. What began unexpectedly in 2016 soon became a calling, awakening a passion she never knew was waiting inside her.

Raised in Orlando, Dafeney works out of her studio, transforming powerful depictions of Black women and girls into vibrant masterpieces. She has since made waves in the art community, with her work featured at the Orlando Museum of Art, Orlando City Hall, Orlando International Airport Gallery, and the Orlando Science Center.

Before stepping into the professional art world, Dafeney volunteered with Orlando Regional Medical Center’s Arts in Medicine Program, bringing comfort and creative expression to cancer patients and their families. She has also performed live paintings for organizations such as Dress for Success and the Traumatic Brain Injury Association, furthering her mission to use art as a tool for empowerment and healing.

In addition to her personal practice, Dafeney has taught art workshops for Hilton Hotels, Edgewood Children’s Ranch, A Perfect Union Art Gallery, and Orlando Union Rescue Mission where she currently instructs. Specializing in acrylics and portraiture, she continues to push creative boundaries by exploring new mediums and techniques.

Through her work, Dafeney celebrates Black femininity with bold, eclectic expression, inspiring others to embrace their inner brilliance. Her mission: to honor and empower Black women by creating portraits that reflect their strength, beauty, and resilience.
