The Crown

“The Crown” reflects the duality faced by Black women during the 1960s, at the height of the Natural Hair Movement. Through three figures, two subdued in Eurocentric standards and one vibrant in her natural afro, the piece explores assimilation, pride, and resistance. The afro becomes more than hair, it is a crown, a symbol of resilience, beauty and the power to stand unapologetically in one’s truth.
